Things that bother me

Atheists Are Sensitive And Believers Are Obnoxious

Pretty much.

This has just been something that I never understood. I mean, I totally understand defending your beliefs whether you believe that there is or there isn’t a God, but…people get so worked up about it. And really, they’re arguing about nothing. Its pointless because neither side is going to change their mind. But once they realize its a moot point, they still don’t want to talk about things like civilized people. I don’t know why. Maybe its just human nature to stand your ground and argue.

Here’s what I understand:

– think all mention of religion is a personal attack on them
– feel alienated when people bring up the concept of God
– worship the devil
– have no morals

– think the presence of an atheist is a personal attack on them
– feel alienated when the conversation does not discuss the concept of God
– hate gays
– try to shove their religion down everyone’s throats

See what I did there?
So maybe neither party lives up to their stereotype. But once we are cloaked by anonymity of the internet all hell breaks loose and we’re all either saints or devils. Yes, this is a post about the internet. I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing me complain about social networking by now, but this has been bugging me for the longest time. Whether its a YouTube video or an Instagram picture or a Facebook post, when one person brings up their beliefs, there’s always a dozen others who tell them why their beliefs are wrong.

And I honestly don’t get that. Some of my closest friends at one point or another did not believe in God. Some still don’t. I don’t hate them for it. I don’t try to show them why they’re wrong. In fact some of the most interesting discussions I’ve ever had have been with atheists. But, that’s “IRL.” Everyone hates each other on the internet.

Then again, people have been fighting about religion for eons. But whether its between believers and non believers or believers of different religions, there’s always the proverbial “fight in the comments section.” Maybe its because one group does feel alienated by the other, but why does that have to happen? Cant we all just get along? I mean, fine. I like talking about my religion and I believe in God, and its a part of my life. For someone else it might not be a part of their life. So what? Nobody’s trying to shove anything in anybody’s face. And if it bothers you so much, well why don’t you just move on? You don’t have to look at that picture, you don’t have to read that post, you don’t have to watch that video and you don’t have to make that comment! I just don’t get it!

I feel like at the end of the day, atheists think believers are stupid for believing, and believers think atheists are stupid for not believing. Am I allowed to say that? Oh eff. Its my blog. I can say what I want. I think atheists are stupid for not believing. But that doesn’t mean I can’t respect their opinions. The way I see it, there is proof that God exists all around me. And at the same time, I’m sure that plenty of people would say that I’m an idiot for falling for a bunch of unbelievable, made up stories in some book that I can’t prove holds any truth. Maybe we’re both stupid. Did you ever think of that?

We’re too sensitive. We’re sensitive and we take things personally and as much as we’d like to think otherwise, we just don’t like people who are different. They make us uncomfortable and we feel the need to defend ourselves. I suppose part of all these unnecessary arguments is the fact that we always want people to see our side of things whether it benefits us or not. We want to feel like we’re right and they’re wrong and when we do it we want as much attention as possible in hopes that people will back us up, or look like the bad guy when they shut us down.

Maybe I’m completely wrong. Probably. But that’s my opinion.

Moral of the story: we are all attention wh0res.
Other moral of the story: haters gonna hate.

*scratches head*  Did I even figure anything out in this one? I think this conversation with myself just went in a very insulting circle…

*****Disclaimer: its five in the morning and I felt like blogging. And just so we’re clear, I will readily admit to being an idiot.*****

  1. You are 100% right about the Moral of the Story. We have the irresistible urge to be right, or at least to hear from others that we are right.

In this case, it is best to live and let live. A large percentage of strife in mankind has been due to religious differences (sometimes even within the same religion).

  2. you are not an idiot. i loved this post actually…was thinking of doing the same topic. but i guess it slipped my.mind. those bullet.points are stop on. i thought the same.

pple should just care about themselves…cant argue or convince irrational people can we. no it cant be done.
